The Name of Jesus is SALVATION.

Challenges, trials and circumstances of this life can bring us to our knees.

Challenges lead us to the places where we have no words to express the hurt of our hearts. We are struck utterly speechless.

No prayer seems to be sufficient enough. No sentiment seems to carry ample weight of our neediness & despair.

Yet in the depths of our grief, pain, heartache, shock & suffering our souls yearn to speak, to utter and to groan.

In this place of desperation, where we cry out for healing, peace, hope and restoration our souls cry out. And we speak. The one and only word, the one and only name. The name of Jesus.

If you have walked through a valley of the shadow of death, I’m certain that you can relate to this yearning, the cry of the heart that screams “JESUS”!

What is it about this name? What is it about the name of Jesus that comforts, gives peace, restores, gives rest, reconciles and gives hope?

One name. Powerful. Almighty. Everlasting Father. Prince of Peace. God.

That name is JESUS.

Jesus means “Jehovah is salvation”.

Acts 4:12 says “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

What’s so important about salvation? Why does it matter that Jesus’s name means salvation?

It’s so important because at the core of our being we are all longing for salvation. We long for freedom. We long for chains to be broken. We long for love of a savior- recognizing that we can’t live this life on our own.

Our hearts were made to cry for help and to be rescued from the hurt. The soul longs for salvation.

The trials of this life produce an urgency or an awakening of sorts for our souls that have been lulled to sleep by the distractions and temptations of this life.

A short-sighted earthly view of circumstances produces a focus on neediness of temporal things that do not satisfy.

Yet it is the name of Jesus, the name of Jesus that brings life through salvation. He has the power to exchange our dead sin nature for new eternal life, free from the bondage of sin & death.

Freedom & power through the name of Jesus is what produces hope. It is this power in his name that gives us freedom. His name breaks every chain.

This week on Cup of Hope I shared a song called, “I Speak Jesus”, performed by Charity Gayle. A good friend shared this song with me and it has soothed my heart and reminded me that no matter what Jesus is in control.

These lyrics portray the power of Jesus’ name.

“I Speak Jesus” declares, “your name is power, Your name is healing,

Your name is life. Break every stronghold, shine through the shadows, burn like a fire”

None of us want to enter into a desperate place. None of us want to experience the true depravity of this world – the hurt, the heartache, the brokenness, Yet none can escape the reality of life here on earth.

Today may I encourage you to spend time reflecting on the name of Jesus. The beautiful, powerful, lovely, strong name of Jesus. May you experience freedom. May you experience peace. May you experience his love.

Next week on Cup of Hope we will continue walking through Acts and focusing on the power of the name of Jesus! Join me Monday, Wednesday & Friday @ 6:45am central time. Cup of Hope streams live on Facebook, YouTube & on the R4LC app.
